Why don’t I have to sign when I pay using my contactless credit or debit card?

tag / smart card - credit card payment - contactless - chip card

Contactless payment is all about speed, particularly in places that traditionally have not accepted credit cards because of the time it takes to conduct the transaction. Eliminating the signature speeds up your purchase and gets you on your way.  It is best to check with the company that issued you your card, but generally a signature isn’t required for purchases under $25.  Signatures are usually required for purchases over $25.
