Is there a pilot program for smart health cards in the U.S.?

tag / authentication

Smart cards are deployed throughout the United States both as pilot programs and in full deployments.  Smart cards have been deployed, for example, to securely authenticate employees within a medical center.  Employees use their smart card based ID badges for physical access and also to log into their computer.  Denver Health in Colorado is an example of a hospital using smart cards to authenticate employees.

In addition, there are a variety of deployments underway in the U.S. utilizing smart cards for patient IDs.
