At the time of this writing, only members of the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) can get EMV chip cards but that's expected to change by 2011. There are other banks looking at offering their customers an internationally-accepted EMV credit and/or debit card.

UNFCU members have been asking for an international payment card for years and they'll begin receiving them in late summer/early fall of 2010.

If you are interested in getting an EMV chip card, you can let your bank's customer service department know. If they hear from you and other customers that an international chip payment card holds broad appeal, they're more likely to listen and make them available to frequent travelers.
