Are all the phone numbers in a mobile stored only in the SIM or does the phone also have memory to store phone numbers?

Most smart phones that use SIM cards have the option to store your contacts on your phone, on your SIM, or both.

It is preferable to store your contacts on your SIM because it is removable and can help you to switch between devices or to a new phone without losing your contacts or any of your other data.
